Flyers

For many small businesses flyers form an important part of their marketing strategy.  They can be used at all parts of the sale process and are fantastic at getting the attention of a potential customer. We can help with design and delivery if you need it. So call in and talk to us – we’d be happy to help make your business successful.

When designing your flyer, don’t forget the AIDA rules:

  • Attention: if you don’t get their attention first, nothing you say will matter.  Colour and images work wonders here.  Make it look good.
  • Interest: Now you’ve got them looking you’ve got to help them want to read more.  Connecting with people so that they say to themselves “I could do with that” is the aim.  Appealing to vanity or fear is a very common way to engage interest.  People don’t usually buy products directly – they seek to solve problems, gain pleasure or relieve pain (and purchase products to achieve that) – you’re not (for example) selling building services, you’re solving their need for more comfortable living space.
  • Desire: Now that they’re circling the hook – you need to make them want to bite.  Increasing the desire through words, images and a great offer usually does the trick.  It’s also good to give them a feeling of security by offering a guarantee.
  • Action: Now they want your product – what should they do next?  You need to make it simple for them – where do they go, who should they call, is there an 0800 number or a web site?  A sense of urgency also helps people act quickly (which is what you want).

When designing a flyer the most important question is “who am I writing this for?“  Another way to say this is “Who is my ideal target, and what will make them buy?”  Most people write a flyer that contains what they want to say, but this is not always what will help the customer buy.  Here are some great questions to ask when designing a flyer or a brochure:

  • what emotional need or fear does my product appeal to?
  • what images would connect with my audience (your logo or a photo of the product may not be the best)
  • What are the benefits of using your product?
  • what action do I want the reader to take next?
  • why should they purchase my product instead of a competitor’s one?
  • what issues are most important when a customer is considering purchasing this type of product?
  • what questions will a potential purchaser have (you don’t always have to answer them)

We can help you put together a great flyer or brochure.  Come and have a chat with us to find out about our design service.

We can offer a quick “spot check” of your flyer and tell you how you rank in terms of AIDA.  Just email me your sample and I’ll give you a few comments.

When designing your flyer please check out our guidelines on bleed (that’s when you want to print right to the edge of the page) as well as the paper size notes.
